Dead Fish Wrapper Plays Up Anti-War Protests, Hides Much Larger Pro-Life Rally

So here's a question for you; you're a newspaper, and there are two national events to be covered. First, an annual conservative march that has hundreds of thousands of people, and second, a liberal march that draws only in the tens of thousands of people. How do you cover them? Do you a) give the one with the much larger attendance more coverage, or do you b) give the smaller one much more space because it's a liberal event?

Knowing the Daily Dead Fish Wrapper, this one isn't hard to figure out; the answer is b.

On January 22nd, the annual March For Life took place on the mall in Washington, D.C. The protesters numbered in the hundreds of thousands. According to LifeNews:

Even Pictures And Captions Used To Kiss Up To Liberals

Wednesday's front page article from the New York Times was the usual anti-Bush liberal drivel that is to be expected from the Times. However, what was interesting was how the Fish Wrapper even uses pictures and captions to display its liberal bias.

President Bush pauses in his State of the Union address to Congress on Tuesday as Vice President Dick Cheney and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., the first woman speaker of the House, find common ground for applause. Pelosi is second in the line of succession to the presidency; her seating behind Bush emphasizes her position to the nation.

Fish Wrapper Twists News To Cast Negative Light On Republicans

Gullyborg has a post on his site showing an example of how the Fish Wrapper will twist the news to cast a bad light on Republicans.

So I read this article on the inauguration and the Governor's speech, and was surprised to read this:

[T]he governor segued into his desire for Oregon to lead in finding alternative energy.

DFW Promotes Democratic "Bipartisanship" But Hides Truth

As was to be expected, The Dead Fish Wrapper (along with the rest of the MSM) was drooling all over itself in its excitement that the Democrats control both houses of Congress. This is in stark contrast to the way they treated the Republicans when they came to power in 1994.

In addition, they trumpet the Dems talking about how they will work with the Republicans, but yet they hide the truth about how in reality they will be excluding the Republicans.

As with almost all Fish Wrapper articles in the front section, they come from the various wire services. The front page article was headlined "History reserves seat for Pelosi", and goes on and on about how the day belonged to Pelosi and all her quotes about partisanship.

Pushing the Liberal Agenda of Universal Health Care

As is typical of most liberals, the Dead Fish Wrapper thinks that more and more government is always the solution to all of society's problems. They have been demonstrating this lately on more than one occasion. The first is an editorial touting a new "framework" for a universal health care system in Oregon as reported by the Fish Wrapper. And, as usual, the editors gloss over important facts while pushing the hype:

DFW and AP Conveniently Forget Murtha Is True King Of Pork

Once again, the AP chooses to point fingers at Republicans whenever possible and conveniently forget that Democrats are even worse. Today's case in point is an article about the Democrats effort to cover unfinished spending bills that were left by the departing Republican leaders. As part of this process, they will be removing billions of dollars in earmarks that were attached to different bills. In the process of explaining the situation, they get it some shots at Republicans.

Fish Wrapper Paints Brandon Mayfield as Victim, Ignores Other Evidence

By now, everyone (or most everyone) knows the sad story of Brandon Mayfield. In the aftermath of the 2004 Madrid train bombings, a fingerprint found on a bag containing detonators similar to the ones used in the bombings. When it was run through the FBI's AFIS fingerprint identification system, a list of 15 possible matches was returned, and Mayfield's was one of them. Three more FBI fingerprint analysts concluded that it indeed did belong to Mayfield. However, the Spanish National Police did not come to the same conclusion. The FBI continued to investigate him, and arrested him and held him for two weeks under a material witness order. Eventually, he was released, and the FBI apologized. The details of the investigation can be found in the US DOJ Inspector General's report on the case. He sued the federal government for violations of his civil rights (among other things), and eventually settled for $2 million.

Liberal Bias Displayed While Discsussing "Ethical Dilemma" For Democrats

Now that Nancy Pelosi has promised the most honest, most open, and most ethical Congress in history", the burden is on her to follow through. However, in discussing this, the New York Times still manages to let their liberal bias shine through, and the Fish Wrapper is oh so happy to publish it.

In giving examples of politicians who have been caught up in corruption scandals, they give a few examples:

DFW Shows More Sympathy Toward Immigrant Lawbreakers

Once again, it is time for the Fish Wrapper to defend the illegal immigrants instead of enforcing our immigration laws. A very one-side article discusses the story of Elvira Arellano and her son Saul, and their attempt to avoid deportation back to Mexico. As a refresher, Elvira entered the United States illegally after having been deported back to Mexico once. She was arrested in December, 2001, and convicted of using a fake Social Security number to get a job at O'Hare airport. She received a deportation order - after several extensions that allowed her to stay longer - and instead of obeying the order, ran to a church, and has been hiding there ever since.
